Photographing Northamptonshire : Rose of the Shires

Ashley Northamptonshire

All my walks start here at the local shop. I explained to the woman who served me that I would like a shot of her and my purchases as a photographic intro for the walk. It was a mistake, I should have just taken the shot without warning. As it was she got out of the frame so fast that she practically left skid marks.

You will note that the national newspaper considers the deaths of three British soldiers to be less newsworthy than the love lives of minor tv celebrities and butt shots of a few bimbos.

I parked in Ashley, climbed what passes for a hill in Northamptonshire and this was the view looking back.

I love patterns formed by crops, ploughing and harvesting. the more so when the pattern is unusual. This pattern reminded me of tartan and it was heightened by the gently undulating countryside.

It is easy to forget that the much loved, 'unspoiled' patchwork quilt effect is entirely man made so we are not a total disaster.

End of the line for two chicken mayonnaise sandwiches, two packets of Hula Hoops, one Crunchie bar and a flask of coffee.

These bales always remind me of stone monoliths. A sort of Hayhenge :-)

These guys alway baffle me. Northamptonshire is by and large flat and cyclists are not that common when compared to the high number of cyclists in the north, hilly part, of the county.

Back to Ashley. I should take more shots in the village. Much of it, including the redesigned 13th century church interior, was designed by George Gilbert Scott who more famously designed the Albert Memorial and St Pancras railway station.
