Things to Do in Amsterdam After Lockdown
Amsterdam is the number one destination for tourists in Europe. Honestly, it’s a world-renowned foodie destination encrusted in history and dynamic culture. It’s more than just a party destination. There are still some safety measures in place but that hasn’t sucked the fun out of Amsterdam. It’s actually one of the best times to visit Amsterdam because there are fewer crowds. If you’re looking for some fun things to do, this one is for you!
Rent a bike
It’s called the bike capital of the world for a reason. The Netherlands is known to have 1.3 bicycles per person making the number of bicycles to be more than any other country in the world. And guess what? 15000 bikes are exhumed from the canals annually. You’ll only get to experience the local’s lifestyle if you ride a bike around the canals. The canals are stunning and you’ll come across many hidden gems and hipster hotspots. Make sure you visit Noord district, a mix of new and old Amsterdam.
Visit famous museums
History and culture are essential components of your Amsterdam trip. You must visit the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, Moco Museum, and Anne Frank’s House. There is so much art and history buried in these hotspots. If you plan to see more than one museum Amsterdam, invest in the iAmsterdam city card. You get free transport, entry to 70+ museums, and an hour boat ride in the canals.
Day trip to Giethoorn
This is a small sleepy village that’s straight out of a fairytale. It’s the ‘Venice of the North’ thanks to its uniqueness and raw beauty. It is one of the cities in the world with no modern roads but none share the gorgeous and magical scenery. The roads are made of water and village of thatched-roofed farm homes. The loudest noise is the quacking of ducks or birds signing. You’ll get to rent whisper boats to explore this picturesque place. You can go to Giethoorn by train or bus. If you use the train, it will take you to Steenwijk where you’ll take a bus to Giethoorn. A bus ride from Amsterdam shouldn’t take you more than 2 hours and it’s less complicated.
Enjoy the food
A food tour is the best way for you to try the local food. It’s the place you can try everything without bursting at the seams. But if you don’t go for a food tour, you have to eat the stroopwaffle at least once. You’ll thank us later!
